Special occasions

December 31,

1999,

Kenya.

Keyech likes flowers.

They mark special occasions. She picks a dandelion in their big farm later on that day. “Well that’s no flower,”Her mother called out behind her, picking out flowers too.

“But it is free like one.”

Later that evening, with the confetti and fireworks and crazy celebrations streaming through the world,Keyech ushered in a new millennium with her little dandelion-a symbol of freedom and lightness,of tender youth and submission.

“I will give you as a gift,to my daughter, she must remember this day through you.”
